What to expect
The group workouts allow participants to improve their physical fitness with stretching, flexibility, strength and motor coordination exercises, as well as the characteristic kicks and acrobatic movements of Capoeira. All this with a deep emphasis on non-verbal communication in improvised no-contact fighting that's as elegant as a dance. All this is accompanied by Brazilian music rhythms, percussion and the sound of the Berimbao, the traditional Capoeira instrument.
Oxossi Capoeira"The style of the Oxossi group has its roots in Capoeira De Rua, or 'street' Capoeira, which originated in Salvador De Bahia. It has retained the fighting fundamentals and cultural facets of primordial Capoeira by adapting it to street life.
The Oxossi group was born at the end of the 1960s in Salvador De Bahia with Mestre Indio do Mercado Modelo da Bahia. His style is a unique blend of Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Regonal to create a street-wise combat style that is unique, and which is called Capoeira de Rua, 'Street Capoeira,' which was first played unofficially in the square of Mercado Modelo da Bahia. The group developed in Milan when Mestre Tarzam, my master from Porto Alegre in Brazil, arrived in Italy in November 2007. Mestre Tarzam placed great emphasis on the community aspect, which was the true spirit of the roots of Capoeira, when it originated among the slaves in the 'senzala' - prisons - in Bahia in the 1500s. I am honoured to represent this mood of Capoeira in Malta." ~ Monitor Tartaruga Ninja |
Capoeira NomadaThe style of Capoeira Nomada is rooted in diverse expressions of capoeira that evolved from major global lineages such as Capoeira Guanabara and Capoeira Nago, drawing also from capoeira de rua and contemporânea to reflect both heritage and evolution.
Through travel and direct experience with different groups and styles around the world, and through deep connection with the roots of capoeira in Brazil—from Salvador da Bahia to Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo—Capoeira Nomada strives to rediscover and recreate the unifying spirit of essential capoeira, aligned with its original and authentic values of unity and community. With roots in Venezuela, the spirit of Capoeira Nomada is to live and teach capoeira as both sport and lifestyle, always honoring its purpose of freedom through resistance, embracing inclusivity, empowering women’s presence in martial arts, and building a strong sense of community and belonging, and I am honoured to share this rich culture. ~ Instrutora Portuguesa |
