Oxossi Capoeira
Oxossi Capoeira is a vibrant and growing Capoeira school in Malta, founded in 2023 by Instrutor Tartaruga. With a deep passion for Capoeira and years of experience, he established the school with the vision of creating a strong and welcoming community for both children and adults.
At Oxossi Capoeira, students learn not just the physical movements of Capoeira—including kicks, acrobatics, and flowing sequences—but also its rich history, music, and cultural significance. The school embraces the essence of Capoeira as a martial art and also an artistic expression and connection, blending self-defense, dance, rhythm and community in a dynamic and engaging way.
Mestre Índio founded Capoeira Oxossi in Bahia, Brazil, and is known for his dedication to Capoeira de Rua — a raw, authentic style that is rooted in the streets, and which emphasises spontaneity, strategy, and tradition.
A master of both Capoeira Angola and Regional, Mestre Índio teaches discipline, respect, and cultural heritage through the jogo (game). His legacy continues through his students, including Mestre Tarzan, who trained Instrutor Tartaruga, who is now leading Capoeira Oxossi Malta.
Today, Capoeira Oxossi thrives internationally, with schools in Brazil, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Malta, keeping Mestre Índio’s vision alive through movement, music, and community.
